Dr Fanning is a consultant Respiratory and Sleep Physician with over a decade of specialist clinical experience across public and private hospital settings in South-East Queensland. He has practised as a Consultant Physician in Respiratory & Sleep Medicine at Mater Hospital South Brisbane since 2013 and serves as Medical Director of one of the larger private respiratory and sleep laboratories in Brisbane.

His clinical expertise spans the full breadth of respiratory and sleep medicine, with particular strengths in occupational lung disease, sleep-disordered breathing, and lung cancer diagnostics. Dr Fanning is an experienced expert witness, having been involved in hundreds of medico-legal cases concerning occupational lung disease.

He is ACIME certified in independent medical examination and permanent impairment assessment (AMA 5th Edition). He holds a Senior Lecturer appointment in the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences at The University of Queensland.

Before medical school, Dr Fanning practised as a pharmacist and then following medical school, trained as a general practitioner on Queensland's Darling Downs before returing to Brisbane to commence his physician training.
